Gillie Roberts has always enjoyed learning how things are made and how their production affects the people and planet that made those things possible. She has also long been frustrated by the disconnect between commerce and climate change. These curiosities and concerns lead her to study Sustainable Development at Appalachian State and, after some time working in non-profits and government consulting, she made her way back to Western North Carolina to open Ware, a low-waste living shop that focuses on the sustainability of the functional products people interact with every day. Ware operates online as well as through its brick-and-mortar in West Asheville, which hosts an extensive and growing refill station for everything from all-purpose cleaner to body lotion.
